Starehe Boys' Centre set in Starehe, Ziwani area of Nairobi is a harbour for high quality education. Founded in 1959 with only two huts and no capital, the school has provided needy boys with free education for many years.

Now four decades later, Starehe is a haven for high quality education serving 1200 pupils of which nearly three quarters are boarders. A hardworking and promising boy has a hope and chance of an education and homely care in this institution.

Last year's KCSE results, when the school stormed to second place in the national league tables, is an example of how far the school has come from its humble beginnings. In line with our philosophy on corporate social responsibility, Old Mutual has come to embrace and value the true meaning of unification in our community and building our nation.

We began our sponsorship for John Nyakangi's education and upkeep in the year 2001. He is now in form four. We wish him all the success that comes from hard work and striving for excellence.
